I loved the gnarled roots on this tree.
In the photograph above, I was struck how the oranges were clinging to the bare branches. Every tree surrounding this one had leaves on it, and this was the only one that was bare but for the oranges.

Lots of character in that bare tree and beautiful roots. Thank you for the lovely tribute post about the tsunami. I made a longer comment on it, but I think it disappeared. Sometimes wordpress and typepad seem to be mad at each other and my comments just float away.

Oh I love the roots….the oranges and no leaves is strange..I wonder what happened to the tree…
I wonder, too. It looked so bizarre to see it being the only tree without leaves.
