Ruth Prawer Jhabvala

I was saddened to read about the death of Ruth Prawer Jhabvala. She died today in Manhattan. She loved her work, which enabled her to use her creativity to its fullest in films such as her adaptation of A Room With a View.

Born of Jewish parents, eventually chose to become a naturalized American citizen and make her home in Manhattan.

Her novels and short stories spoke volumes about social issues, regarding culture and location, often comparing England and India, the East with the West. Her writing reflects the images of memory, religion, time and place, love, and so much more in a compelling manner.

Here is a Wikipedia article on her, her life and her incredible works.

May her Memory be for a Loving Blessing.

  3. I did not know anything about her – will look for her books.

I loved the movie A Room with a View – I think we saw Howard’s End as well.
